    It doesn’t work like that. I’m assuming by “mariner” you mean navigator/deck officer – if that’s your job, you do that. There are fitters and engineers to weld and crew for carpentry, if a deckie came down to any engine room I’ve ever set foot in and asked to have a crack at welding they’d be told to fuck off.
