What are my chances of getting onboard a freighter?

I’ve always been interested in working on the freighters and I saw the Interlake steamship company is hiring for their lowest positions (Ordinary and Able body seaman) I understand I need to get a passport, my TWIC and my MMC to be even considered. I’m 18, and just graduated. No health problems or criminal convictions. I have been around boats my whole life on Lake Erie and The Ohio River so maritime life has always interested me. When I get my qualifications done, what are my chances of even getting a phone call? Any help is appreciated, so flood this post and my chat box!!!

Well with all of that you would meet all of the requirements. I have similar qualifications, and I can tell you that I applied a couple months ago upon hearing that I was temporarily laid off from my job and I didn’t hear anything back. Take that with a grain of salt though as that it was at the beginning of the officially declared pandemic.

There are other companies on the Great Lakes though. I know [VanEnkevort](https://www.vtbarge.com/) wanted to interview me (before I was reassured about my current job). They’re likely still hiring.
