Should someone named Jonah become a merchant marine?

I am really interested in becoming a merchant marine. The lifestyle sounds perfect for me, however my name is Jonah… From what I understand sailors are very superstition and I am leary of even being able to get hired with this specific name. (Due to the biblical story of Jonah.) I’m not sure if I am being naive or if this is something that might at the least cause issues with especially superstition crew that want nothing to do with me on a ship. What do you think?

Do whatever you want. I have never heard of this superstition ever after many years at sea. People thankfully don’t care about superstitions and shit anymore.

Just don’t listen to “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” on a boat. Someone did that in February on my boat and I’m convinced that’s what caused this whole 2020 mess.
