Commercially of course Newcastle is one of the busiest coal export ports in the world. Newcastlemax vessels will trade in the capesize market, that is to say coal and ore. With a Newcastlemax an owner would give up some top end tonnage that might make more money in the Brazil export trade, Vale Iron ore for example, but gains the ability to call Newcastle for coal and so has a wider range of accessible cargo.
