I am a CMA grad as well and we had several dudes in their late 40’s early 50’s come through. Before you start you need to know the state of the maritime industry. Jobs for new 3rds are in very very short supply. Its been that way since the Gulf downturn in 2016 and has no sign of getting better. Between AMO and MMP there are less than 75 deep draft ships trading under the US flag. Honestly I would advise you to go to check out PMI work boat school. Its a much shorter program but you come out with a 1600 ton mate license which is all you need to work on tugs.

CMA is SUPER impacted for Marine Trans, I’d put an application to Maine too. Super friendly to older students and veterans

I went to a maritime academy when I was 23/24. Nobody cared at all, & it doesn’t really come up. If anything, the younger guys look up to the older folks.

You’ll be fine. I’m the oldest guy in my class and no one really cares about your age.

I go there right now and I would say the average age there is mid-twenties. A guy in my class is 55.
