Hey guys, I currently work as a contractor doing fire systems on large ships (Im the guy doing your annual COI’s and repair work). Because of corona, I am now living on the ships while I work and I have discovered I dont actually mind it at all. I am now kind of curious about switching over and becoming a merchant marine, specifically engine department/qmed.
I was wondering if you guys could help me answer some questions
1. What is the route from getting your mmc to becoming a qmed?
2. How much does a qmed normally make and what is the vacation time like?
3. There is an SIU hall in my city and some guys on here told me when I get back to go down there to get started. I was wondering of that is the best route or if any of yall have different advice or experiences.
